Ceramic Ornaments

Penkridge ceramics create ceramic ornaments based on still life objects such as fruit, vegetables, tree foliage and its fruitage, such as horse chestnuts and acorns. Using ceramic compounds, and pewter (used for our acorns) we aim to capture a part of nature for you to display, and keep for years to come.
Ceramic art has been around for a long time, all around the world, in many different cultures in some form or another. Earthenware, (a form of clay pottery that can be fired and then made to hold liquids by the application of a glaze) dates back for millennia. Whiteware ceramic materials such as fine china also known as porcelain, is known for being tough and impermeable after being fired at very high temperatures, and even before it is glazed.
The use of ceramic art at Penkridge Ceramics can be defined as both fine art and decorative art, as it is made to appeal aesthetically to the eye. However, we provide ceramic ornaments to people who wish to display them as part of their home décor, to highlight colour and to bring some of nature into the home environment. The word ornament, for example is seem as a decoration used to adorn an object and its surroundings. Our ceramic ornaments in the form of a selection of fruits and vegetation provide a feast for the eyes, with an abundance of colour, shapes and textures.
The glazes we create and use for the ornaments in our studio in Walsall near Birmingham, are applied several times to create depth of colour and tone, as well as the texture that are admired in the original subjects themselves. We provide a selection of ceramic ornaments within each category. For example, within the ornamental apple ceramics, you can choose from a number of options. There are nine different types of apples available and within each of these breeds, you can choose from a number of shapes, sizes. Some come with a twig and leaf cast in pewter, and others are windfall apples, which means they appear just as the apple which naturally breaks off from the tree, and falls to the ground.
Other choices of these ceramic ornaments, include pears, orchard fruits such as fig and mangoes, and exotic fruits such as pineapples and melons. The mere mention of these beautiful fruits is enough to make your mouth water. The ceramic vegetable collection includes asparagus, garlic and artichokes. We pride ourselves on the selection we make available to you as we aim to resemble the choice, beauty and colour available in nature.
These ceramic ornaments can be displayed in any part of your house, including your kitchen, dining area and conservatory. You can even out them on a window sill, without the fear of them spoiling like the real-life articles. These ceramic ornaments are also ideal for displays in museums and stately homes when you are depicting still life with in a home setting.
